Muchos hijos, un mono y un castillo

a film by Gustavo Salmerón

If you were to make a documentary on a subject of your choice, what would it be? Think of three topics:

I hope all of them are about something or somebody you love. Has any of them anything to do with your mum?

Gustavo Salmerón did something brilliant in its simplicity: a film about his eccentric mother Julita. She might be not the easiest person to live with but my, isn’t she lovable and loved.

This week, Monopol is screening Muchos hijos... once a day. (Hopefully, thanks to it winning this year’s Goya Award, it will be shown more widely.) I went to see it yesterday. The audience consisted mainly of middle-aged women, who seemed to enjoy every minute of the film. Not what one normally thinks of as a “family entertainment” but in fact it very much is. Watch it.
