Ajo y agua: La antiguía de la mujer perfecta

by Emmanuelle Martinez
translated by Marta Suárez Bravo

Not a graphic novel but rather a collection of assorted vignettes à la Problemas del primer mundo. Fleur, the protagonist, made me think of Volátil, albeit slightly more mature and definitely sin pelos en la lengua.

Ajo y agua is a Spanish version of Fleur de Mamoot: Foutu pour foutu... (I’ll let you figure out what that means). The Spanish title, literally “garlic and water”, is a clever abbreviation of a joderse y aguantarse, i.e. “embrace the suck”. The French version was first published in 2019; I guess the author did not realise at the time how much Fleur’s smile looks like a face mask. Joder.
